Foghorn

Wow, we have a new website. This is almost as exciting as buying a new camera.

In some ways, the launching of our new online gallery is just as tension-causing as the decision of which camera to buy: Is the money invested in the highest end, most sophisticated piece of digital wizardry going to pay off? Or is the smarter choice the less then top-of-the-line camera that is still a work horse but with not quite so many bells and extraordinary whistles a better buy, less money tied up for maybe the same return, the same number of assignments completed to the clients glowing satisfaction? A most definite quandary to ponder.

For the website, is it really ready to launch? Is it as strong as it possibly can be with images so amazing that every art buyer in the nation will be calling? Is there a perfect website anymore than is there a perfect camera that takes pictures, answer the phones, make a darn fine cup of coffee, sweep up and turn out the light before it leaves?

No, the camera is a tool that will answer perfectly well for many situations and more than likely fall short on some others. In the same vein, this website is always a work in process. Just as the photographer who presents their work is also a growing and changing individual, so too the website that is the gallery of their stuff should be developing with new images, new insights into the why and how of their pictures. Launch a website with weak images because eventually they will become stronger, this is not what I am arguing.
Present the world with the best images you can right now, this moment, knowing full well in next few months they will be “more better” as my German grandmother would have said.

With that in mind, I invite you to join me on a new adventure with this new website.

I have been making pictures professionally for over 30 years now. Hundreds of thousands images. This is my first blog post. I have had a website, actually several websites over the past seven years. Now for the first time I am going to hold myself responsible to use the site as a tool for personal and professional development. I might even learn how to spell.

Are the images that you see now the strongest pictures I am capable of making? Maybe today, but certainly not tomorrow.
